Japanese researchers succeeded in their new research on curing liver cirrhosis in rats. This news was reported by the researchers last Monday (03-31-08). They hope that they can apply this method to humans who are suffering from liver cirrhosis soon.
This study was conducted by the researchers from Sapporo Medical University in northern Japan. They used a vitamin A-laced minuscule sac to prevent the production of collagen. The vitamin A-laced minuscule sac contains a genetic material which can prevent the hardening of the organ.
The report of the new study was published in the US journal Nature Biotechnology. Based on the study, the researches reported that even rats with chronic liver cirrhosis have been survived due to the effect of vitamin A-laced minuscule sac. According to the researchers, vitamin A-laced minuscule sac has the capability to resolve liver fibrosis.
One of the researchers told AFP in a telephone conversation that they want to implement clinical tests with private companies and bring this to practical use within five years.
Liver cirrhosis is a serious condition in which the normal liver tissue is replaced with non-living scar tissue. Liver cirrhosis may occur as a result of alcoholism, hepatitis or any other causes.
